Raise vital funds to support unpaid carers

Why we need your help

Annually, we extend our support and wellbeing services to just under 7,000 unpaid carers, including over 900 young carers aged 5-18.

These carers dedicate their time to providing extra support to loved ones who due to illness, disability, mental health problems, an addiction or old age, cannot manage day-to-day without their support.

Fundraising FAQs

Thank you for taking the first step towards organising a fundraiser in support of our charity. Every event, big or small, makes a real difference in helping us continue our vital work supporting thousands of unpaid carers who are selflessly caring for loved ones, day in and day out.

We’re here to support you along the way, and our FAQs highlight some important legal considerations to keep in mind as you plan your fundraiser.

Collecting money

If you’re collecting money in the street, you’ll need a licence from the local authority. If it’s private property such as a shop car park or shopping centre, please ask the owner or manager.

Raffles and lotteries

If you’re holding a raffle at an event and will be drawing winners within the event, you can use cloakroom tickets but if your raffle lasts longer than 24 hours you’ll need a lottery licence and printed tickets with our charity number on them. Please ask for support to do this.

Music and alcohol

If you are intending to sell alcohol or have booked a band to play music at your event, you’ll also need a licence. We can help you apply for this.

Insurance

Please do a risk assessment of your activities and check if you need first aiders present. If your event is open to the public (not just family and friends), it’s important to have public liability insurance as The Carers' Centre will not accept liability for anything that happens to people as a result of your event.

That’s not as scary as it sounds as the venue you use might already have this, and so might your home insurance if you’re holding it at home.

You’ll also need any caterers to have their own insurance as well as a food hygiene certificate. If you’re providing food yourself, the Food Standards Agency provides great advice on preparing, handing and cooking food.

Paying in your fundraising money

Once you have raised all this money, please don’t forget to pass it to us! If you’ve used a page such as Just Giving or created a tribute page, the donations will come to us automatically. You can pay in money via our website or send a cheque made payable to 'BaNES Carers Centre' to The Carers' Centre, Woodlands, Lower Bristol Road, Bath, BA2 9ES.

Don’t forget to let us know who you are and what you did - we'd love to give you a shout out!
