Supporting parents
Join our community
If you look after a child with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), we are here for you. It's important to recognise your additional role as a carer, as with it comes a support network and access to specialist information and signposting.
By joining The Carers’ Centre you’ll meet people who understand the challenges you may face, and will listen to you. You will also gain access to a range of fantastic and free services to support you through your caring journey.
Why we're here
When you care for a child with additional needs, it can be hard to know where you can turn to feel supported.
You are not alone. We see how much you are doing, and we are here for you.
We offer opportunities to help you focus on your own health and wellbeing, connect you to others in a similar situation and we are on hand to help you navigate the challenges of caring.
You are welcome to join any of our wellbeing activities, Carer Cafés or Peer Support Groups. We do host a Parent Carer Café once a month on a Wednesday at the Midsomer Norton Methodist Church. Children are welcome to come along, and these cafés are support by our wonderful volunteer Claire, who is a parent carer herself and understands the day-to-day challenges you may be facing.
Find out more about these cafés or the full variety of wellbeing opportunities on offer by visiting our activities page, or read Claire's volunteering story to understand the benefit of the Parent Carer Café.
Accessing support
There are a few ways you can access support from us, to help you manage your finances, identify local services and opportunities or prioritise your own health and wellbeing at home.
Services we provide
We offer a wide range of free services for adults who are looking after their partner, friend or family member, including a child with additional needs. Our services are here to ensure you stay well, in control and connected to others.
Services for Young Carers
If you have more than one child, you may also like to explore how we can support the siblings of your child with additional needs. Our Young Carers Service support any young person from the age of five who provides a caring role to a family member. This could be helping them dress, supporting them to manage their needs or taking time out of their own hobbies to accommodate the needs of their sibling.
Register them as a Young Carer and they too can begin to take some time for their-selves away from their caring role and benefit from a community of young carer who understand what it's like.
