Get help with benefit checks, tax credits, and rebates to ensure you receive all available financial support.
During the autumn and winter months, carers experience significant financial pressures. These pressures can hinder the ability to provide essential care and maintain a comfortable living environment for their loved ones.
These challenges are further exacerbated by the rising cost of living, which puts additional strain on household budgets, particularly during the busy Christmas period when expenses often surge.
Our new Carer Money Matters project, in collaboration with Carers Trust and Wales & West Utilities, aims to support unpaid carers in Bath and North East Somerset through a comprehensive program of advice, grants, training, and support.
Carer Money Matters is designed to help in several key areas:
Bill and debt management
Receive guidance on techniques to reduce bills and manage debts, ensuring you have the knowledge and support needed to stay financially stable.
Benefits and grants
Assistance will be provided to help you access benefits and grants, maximise your income and improve financial security
Financial control
Through training and resources, we want to help you feel more in control of your finances, offering peace of mind and stability.
Home safety
Ensuring homes are warm and safe from carbon monoxide is a top priority.
By the end of March 2026, we aim to have supported thousands of carers in our local area through a wide range of services, including:
Get help with benefit checks, tax credits, and rebates to ensure you receive all available financial support.
Debt advice and energy savings
Receive advice on energy-saving measures, grants, cheaper tariffs, debt management, repayment plans, and debt relief schemes.
Employment and training support
The project provides support with job searches and training, helping you explore employment opportunities and develop your skills.
Learn about budgeting, money management, and expense tracking tools to build a solid financial foundation.
Our goal is to offer home energy efficiency workshops and personalised advice to help you reduce energy use and lower bills.
Kits with essential information on registering for priority services will be available to ensure you get the support needed in emergencies.
Workshops and one-on-one sessions will raise awareness of carbon monoxide dangers, and we'll distribute locking cooker valves and CO alarms to enhance safety.
A dedicated Energy Advisor will be available to talk to our community, providing personalised assistance and guidance. This ensures that you have a reliable source of support and information, helping you navigate the challenges you may face.
Alongside this, The Carers’ Centre will provide more useful information at future carer cafés and events.
This project represents a significant step forward in supporting carers and addressing the financial challenges they face.
Through strong partnerships and a commitment to providing bespoke support, we hope this project will make a lasting impact on the lives of our caring community.
