History of Cleveland Pools

Discover the fascinating history of Britain’s oldest lido - from its early days as a Victorian place of leisure to its time as a trout farm and its recent multi-million-pound refurbishment.

What to expect

Our free activities are here to help you take some time for yourself and to meet others that understand the joys and challenges of looking after a loved one.

A few things to note:

  • We have a minibus arranged to take people from The Carers' Centre to the Pools and back, so let us know if you’d like to come on this.
  • For those making their own way please note that there is no parking available at Cleveland Pools. The nearest parking is at The Podium shopping centre which is a 20-minute walk away. There are two blue badge spaces at the entrance to the pools, but these are available for anyone to use and unfortunately can’t be reserved. There are buses that stop on Forester Road a 5-minute walk away – for more details please contact us.
  • The pools are currently only accessible by a steep slope from the entrance on Hampton Row. Wheelchair users and those with mobility needs are able to access the pools using this, but please let us know if you have any mobility needs so we can make sure there is someone available to support you.
