New Community Radio Show on Somer Valley FM

We’re thrilled to be part of a brand-new community radio show on Somer Valley FM starting on Thursday 15th September, thanks to a collaboration with Age UK Bath & North East Somerset and Big Local Radstock & Westfield.

Broadcast every Thursday from 2pm – 3pm, ‘The Community Show’ is co-presented by our very own Deputy CEO, Janine Woodward-Grant, and combines news and views from the local community with a cracking playlist of music.

On the eve of the first show, Janine said:

"We’ve been talking about doing a show like this for a while. We’ve heard time and again from carers that they don’t feel seen or understood by the people around them. I’m excited to be able to help the wider community hear the voices of carers, as well as other members of our community."

"Hopefully, the show will also spread awareness of all the great things going on in our area and help us link people to local support and connections. With a little bit of uplifting music in-between!"

Joining Janine as presenters on the show are Simon Allen, CEO at local charity Age UK Bath & North East Somerset, and Rob Wicke who is the manager at Big Local Radstock & Westfield - a resident led programme supporting people in the local area.

Commenting on the launch of the show, Simon said:

"It has been fantastic working with and learning from my fellow presenters. The thing that binds us all together is our love for the place we live; the Somer Valley. We've been on a learning curve about how to make a radio show but we are finding out feet or should I say, our radio voices."

"As people who work for community based organisations we've lots coming up to talk about from the devastating impact that loneliness can have to volunteering in our community. There's always lots going on!"

For Rob, the show provides the perfect platform to help engage with and support more people in living in Radstock and Westfield.

"The Community Show fits perfectly with the Big Local Radstock & Westfield ethos as we’re all about supporting the community to access projects where they can learn new skills, develop positive health and wellbeing, and make improvements to their local area," Rob explained.

"I’m so pleased I get to join forces with Simon from Age UK BANES and Janine from The Carers’ Centre to bring you a fun and informative show!”
