The Carers’ Centre is holding its inaugural sponsored walk this June 5th, at the start of national Carers Week.
Walkers have the option of 4.5 or 9 mile routes and will raise money to support local families who are caring for a sick or disabled loved one.
The walk will start at 11am and will loop down through the Two Tunnels to the Hope and Anchor in Midford, where walkers can finish or turn back to Bath. Both groups have the option of a pub lunch.
Development Manager Janine Woodward-Grant says she hopes the walk will raise awareness of the charity’s work as well as funds.
‘We want to make the walk as accessible as possible so it is free to enter, and we only ask that entrants try to raise £50 sponsorship. But you can still walk even if you don’t hit the target! Obviously we’d love to raise as much as possible but we also want people to get involved with their community,’ says Janine.
The Carers’ Centre provides support to approximately 4,000 carers from the BaNES area, helping them to manage their caring role by offering information, advice, counselling, befriending and respite.
The charity also supports young carers aged as young as 5, who will often help with extra duties if they have an ill or disabled sibling or parent.
Local printing firm Minuteman Press Bath is sponsoring the walk.
Minuteman Press Sales & Marketing Director Dave Dixon says ‘it is a delight to be supporting the Carers Centre’s walk; the team do such good for the 1000s of carers in our local community. We hope to see it as the first walk of many.’
Entries are now open and the centre is actively looking for more walkers. Participants can enter via http://ccwalk2016.eventbrite.co.uk or contact the fundraising office on 01761 431 388.
