Carers' Centre to Celebrate Community with New Awards

The Carers’ Centre is delighted to launch a new annual awards night to focus on the caring community in Bath and North East Somerset.

Over the summer the Centre has run a campaign to gather stories of the ways the local community can and has supported carers. Some wonderful examples have come through, from friends and neighbours going the extra mile, to GPs being carer-aware and a care home whose kind and concerned staff have made the transition of moving someone into care less stressful.

The Awards, along with the annual general meeting, will be held on November 30th at King Edwards School.

The event is sponsored by Bluebird Care, Curo and Mogers Drewett and the Centre is seeking further sponsorship from local business to help cover costs for the evening.

Incoming Chief Executive David Trumper says:

“Caring can be tough, but sometimes there’s that someone who makes things just that little bit easier. Someone to pick up the groceries when you can’t, a GP who remembers to ask how you are, a support worker who really listens – these small things can make a big difference in the life of a carer. We hope to celebrate and recognise those people at our awards in November.”

Every nominee will receive a recognition card and some will be asked to be part of a series of short videos to tell their story.

“The Centre has had a brilliant wave of responses from carers to tell us who has really supported them and made their lives a little bit more manageable. We look forward to sharing these stories with the wider community and hopefully make Bath and North East Somerset a more carer-friendly place to live,” says Emma Tucker, the Centre’s Communications Manager.

Nominations have now closed, but keep an eye out for next year’s campaign!
